Structured Cabling is defined by the client requirement and anticipated volume of data traffic and clarification of categories is as below:
Category 5e
Used for LAN network support up to 1000Mbits/s (1GB)
Category 6
Offers better levels of performance Cat 6 features more stringent specifications supporting speeds up to 10-Gigabit across greater distance than Cat5e networks.
Category 7
Is a fully shielded system that can provide more than twice the bandwidth of Category 6 cabling.
Structured cabling is governed by Industry Standards, one of which limits the length of a cable run. Where the requirement is over this length then Fibre Optic cable may be used to extend the network.
